Filming leads to funding for local schools

SCHOOLS in Antrim are set to get a £500 boost after a film crew spent several days shooting in the town.

As revealed in the Antrim Guardian last month, Skintown Films Ltd asked permission to film on High Street and at several other locations in the town.

The adaptation of Northern Irish actor and author Ciaran McMenamin’s 2018 novel Skintown, produced by Keeper Pictures and Brendan J. Byrne of Cyprus Avenue Films, will hit the big screen in 2026.

It’s described as “a buddy movie combining the anarchy of Kneecap with the humor of Derry Girls,” the film is said to be influenced by titles like Trainspotting and Twin Town.”

Mayor Leah Kirkpatrick met the actors and crew on location last week.

And Antrim Town DUP Councillor Paul Dunlop said that he was delighted to suggest that local schools receive money paid to the council for permitting the filming, having been liaising with the production company over the last few weeks.

A statement said: “The production would like to thank all residents and businesses for their support and assistance throughout our time in Antrim. We have had an amazing week.

“To show our appreciation for everyone’s support, the production is delighted to be able to donate £500 to nine schools.”

£500 also went to the Royal British Legion Antrim Branch, for permitting filming of the war memorial in Market Square.
