TWENTY-seven students and three staff members from St. Benedict’s College were joined by Father James O’Reilly, the school’s local Parish Priest, and Mr. Thomas McStocker, a member of the Board of Governors, on a truly memorable pilgrimage to Medjugorje.
The week-long journey offered a profound opportunity for reflection, prayer and community faith as the group immersed themselves in the spiritual heart of Medjugorje.
The pilgrimage began with orientation meetings at St. James’ Chapel, setting the tone for the days ahead. Students took part in the Illuminous Mysteries Stations of the Cross, followed by a peaceful walk up Adoration Hill, where time was set aside for personal reflection and quiet prayer.
One particularly moving experience took place at the Garden of Gethsemane Chapel, where students reflected deeply on their faith journey before participating in confession and adoration. The group also gathered at the Blue Cross to pray the Rosary — a special moment of unity and gratitude shared by all.
A highlight of the pilgrimage was a series of inspirational talks with Father Leon in the Yellow Hall, whose words deeply resonated with the students and staff. D
uring their stay, candles were lit for the intentions of all those who generously contributed to making the pilgrimage possible — a touching act of remembrance and thanksgiving.
One of the most powerful moments came as students climbed Cross Mountain, each carrying a small stone from the bottom to the summit.
This act symbolised the struggles and burdens we each carry, and the faith to leave them with Jesus beneath the Cross.
Later in the week, the group visited St. Anthony’s Shrine, where Father James celebrated Mass, with students leading prayers and readings. They also received special blessings with First Class Relics of St. Faustina and St. John Paul II at the Divine Mercy Chapel, and were invited to place their own private petitions in prayer.
The pilgrimage was a time of great blessing for all who took part — a week of friendship, reflection and renewed faith. The school community extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported and contributed to the journey, both spiritually and financially.
As one student reflected, “Medjugorje helped me see my faith in a new light. It reminded me that even in our struggles, we’re never alone — we walk with Christ.”
Participants returned home deeply grateful for the experiences shared, the prayers offered and the memories made — carrying the peace of Medjugorje in their hearts.
