Ulster-Scots Leid Week will run from 24-28 November 2025, bringing a diverse programme of events and activities to communities across Northern Ireland. Coordinated by the Ulster-Scots Agency, the week aims to promote greater awareness, understanding, and celebration of the Ulster-Scots language.

Whether you know a wheen o wurds or a hale rake, everyone is invited to come together and join in as Ulster-Scots Language Week returns for 2025.

Leid Week provides a unique opportunity to explore Ulster-Scots language and heritage, reflect on the important role it plays in the lives of its speakers, and recognise its contribution to our wider community.

As part of the celebrations, Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council will host a series of Ulster-Scots events throughout the Borough, delivered through the District Council Good Relations Programme.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Leak Kirkpatrick, said, “Leid Week is a great opportunity to celebrate this unique language and culture that is deeply rooted in our Borough.

“We have lots of events planned for the week, including Walking Tours and Workshops and I would encourage everyone to get involved and learn more about the language and heritage of Ulster Scots.”

William Olphert, Ulster Scots Agency added, “I’m delighted to see a wide range of Ulster-Scots Language activities on offer across the council area, as we celebrate Leid Week 2025. Leid (Language) week occurs in the last week of November each year across all of Ulster and is the perfect opportunity to explore more about the language and how it has shaped our everyday speech.”
